About the Author

Fabien Petitcolas
Director for Innovation, Europe

Fabien Petitcolas is director for innovation at Microsoft Europe, supporting Microsoft presence in EU policy and political dialogue for and around innovation and R&D.

Fabien joined Microsoft Research in 1999 as a researcher within the Security Research Group working on digital watermarking. He then made a transition to Microsoft Research University Relations, managing relationship with academics in the United Kingdom and Ireland. In 2004, he became head of Microsoft Research Intellectual Capital Development programmes, until 2010. These programmes continue to support outstanding scientists in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and include the Microsoft Research PhD Scholarship, European Faculty Fellowship and Inspire programmes.
Fabien graduated in 1996 from École Centrale, Lyon. He then studied at the University of Cambridge under the guidance of Prof. Ross Anderson FRS FREng for a doctorate, which was partly funded by the Intel Corporation and was awarded in 1999 when he joined Microsoft Research.

Fabien is a Fellow of the British Computer Society.
